While everyone experiences bad breath occasionally, chronic bad breath can negatively impact your confidence and your lifestyle. We’ve put together this guide to help you understand the causes of bad breath and give you tips for overcoming them!
In order to improve your breath, you’ll want to figure out what might be causing it to smell. This is easier said than done since there are many factors that can contribute to bad breath. Certain foods can temporarily make your breath stink – onions and garlic being the most obvious examples. Poor oral health is another common cause of bad breath: without consistent brushing and flossing every day, odor-causing bacteria can multiply in your mouth. A variety of health conditions can also cause bad breath, like gum disease, dry mouth, a buildup of tonsil stones, respiratory infections, diabetes, acid reflux, sinus infections, GI issues, and more. Smoking and using other tobacco products are also notorious for causing bad breath.
The treatment for bad breath varies depending on the cause. One easy place to start is practicing a good oral hygiene routine: brush your teeth twice daily for two minutes each time and floss every day. Take care that you’re brushing your tongue, cheeks, and the roof of your mouth too! If your bad breath is due to an underlying problem like an oral infection or gum disease, then professional treatment is the answer.
No matter what is causing your bad breath, we want to help. There’s no need to be embarrassed, either, because we’ve seen just about everything!
